How many people are a bit vague about how even their cars work, let alone their mobile phones, the internet, GPS, VCR, DVD... (etc etc etc)? Technological ignorance is a Bad Thing because:
Gadgets and machines, serious or trivial, are an amazing product of human imagination. I feel it's sort of disrespectful and unappreciative towards designers, engineers and scientists.
We live in a technological environment. As a Green, I think people should strive to live in harmony with their environment. No I'm not joking.
Allowing yourself to be too reliant on stuff that you don't understand means, in practice, being too reliant on the people who do understand . Don't like that. Perhaps even potentially dangerous?
So could I give an adequate account of the principles behind all the machines I use? Errr no....but it is one of my ongoing projects to work towards being able to do so.
